Buhari's wife flag-off empowerment initiative for 1000 Kwara womenThe wife of Nigeria’s President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari on Sunday in Ilorin flagged-off two-weeks long skills acquisition empowerment programme for 1000 women in Kwara state.

Buhari, who is the Founder of Future Assured Programmes, for Nigerians stated that skills acquisition is part of the Future Assured Programme which is a social intervention aimed at ameliorating poverty among youths and women.

She was represented by the wife of Kwara Governor. Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, ROYAL NEWS reports. 

She said that series of social programmes initiated by the present administration is aimed at transforming the lives of the youth and womenfolk in particular, who form a great chunk of the unemployed in the nation.

Buhari explained that their are myriad of social problems plaguing the country which unfortunately, has turned substantial part of our active and agile youths to become social miscreants.

According to her, the official flagg-off will therefore, commence with the first batch of a total of 1000 unemployed youths and women selected from across the Kwara.

She admonished all the beneficiaries to be active participants in the skills acquisition while warning that at the end of the programme, exams would be conducted.

The Presidents wife pointed out that those that scored the approved mark of attendance and pass mark would be empowered with working tools and kits for various trade.

She listed the skills acquisition programmes to include tailoring, catering, soap making, computer training and electrical works among others.

Speaking at the occasion, the Governor of Kwara, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the state would not relent in ensuring women and the youths were employed.

Ahmed who was represented by Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, Commissioner for Information, pledged to complement Federal Government efforts in making people self dependent and productive in the state.

Mallam Zakariyau Babatunde, Seniour Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment explained that commended the President’s wife for her initiatives.

He advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of the empowerment skills, saying it will go a long way to solve unemployment issues among the youths and women in the state.
