25yr-old man in court over alleged robbery
The police, on Monday, arraigned a 25-year-old man, Ogunleye Olarewaju, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged robbery.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of robbery.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 16 at Iworoko-Ekiti
He said that the defendant robbed one Adeniyi Sodiq.
Leramo said that the defendant forced the complainant to transfer money through his phone to him.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 1(1) of the Robbery and Firearm Act, Cap. RII, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor, however, asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the plea of the defendant was not taken.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Ayodele Oguntuase, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would be presented whenever his attention was needed.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till July 30 for mention.
