26 bag first class as Al-Hikmah varsity set to graduate 1,583 students
Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, will on Saturday award degrees to a total of 1,583 graduating students with 26 bagging First Class for the 2022/23 academic session.
The Vice-Chancellor, of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof Noah Yusuf made this disclosure at the 13th convocation press briefing held at the Adeta campus of the University, Ilorin on Monday.
Giving the breakdown of the award, Prof Yusuf said that 472 of the graduating students will be awarded Second Class Honour (Upper Class), 600 awarded Second Class Lower, 105 Post Graduate Diploma, 31 Diploma, 213 Masters and 27 Doctoral Degrees.
He said that a lot of progress has been recorded on infrastructural development with the support of the Governing Council, saying “We have opened up the Atere campus, which currently houses the Faculties of Law, Management and Education, as well as the Centre for Peace and Security Studies and Postgraduate School.
“Other new infrastructural facilities in the Adeta campus include the Faculty of Law Moot Court, road network and four (4) New hostel complex.
“In addition, work has commenced on the Faculty of Management Sciences for which our three 2022 Honorary Doctorate Degree Awardees funded.
“Some of these projects are scheduled for commissioning on Friday, 8th December, 2023 by His Excellency, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is also the Convocation Lecturer.
“The projects are Sen. Kashim Shettima’s Faculty of Nursing Science Block at Adeta campus and the Faculty of Law Moot Court at the Atere campus.”
The Vice-chancellor listed some of the achievements recorded in the last year including upgrade and total transformation of the campus environment.
According to him, notable rise in enrolment across all faculties in the current academic session and the successful take-off of the Centre for Peace and Security Studies.
Prof. Yusuf said the university embarked on collaborations and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with some prominent Universities in Nigeria and abroad.
“These include: Lakeside University College, Accra, Ghana; Amet University, India;
Cavalla International University;
Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-Irese and Fountain University, Osogbo.”
The Vice-chancellor said that the institution has successfully transformed the Igbaja campus leading to the Full NUC Accreditation of Agriculture programme and suggestion by the NUC Programme Accreditation team to upgrade the campus the to University of Agriculture, Igbaja campus.
“In collaboration with the Stakeholders Forum, the completion of the 700-capacity CBT Centre currently stocked with 275 thin clients for JAMB and other relevant examinations. The Centre secured JAMB approval to conduct the 2022 UTME and this was very successful.
“Successful accreditation of 48 out of 51 courses of our undergraduate academic programmes with FULL ACCREDITATION STATUS.
“The outstanding three (3) programmes shall be slated for accreditation as soon as they are mature
” The NUC resource verification of fifteen (15) programmes and fencing of Atere and Igbaja campuses as a positive step towards ensuring a ‘Safe School Programme’
“The University management also Unveiled of 5-year Strategic Plan, which has been approved by the University Council. The institution also has a Centre for Community development activities supported by the University management.”
Prof Yusuf said the university also established the Al-Hikmah Road Marshal Unit for the management of
roads around the campus environs, while bumps, road signs and safety awareness were constructed by the institution for motorists along Alhikmah University road, Adeta.
He said since the institution embarked on these actions it had stopped to witness the usual daily accidents along the university road at Adeta, Ilorin.
He said the institution has zero tolerance for drug abuse, cultism and examination misconduct.
The Vice-chancellor said the institution usually conducts drug tests for students at intermittent periods towards securing drug-free campuses.
Yusuf said the institution always ensures strict compliance with the dress code for both staff and learners.
