31yr-old woman gets 2yrs in jail for stealing recharge cards worth N4.2m
An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 31- year- old woman, Fabiyi Kemi , to two years imprisonment for stealing MTN recharge cards valued at N4.2 million.
In her judgment, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs, Adeola Adelaja, said the two-year jail term was with hard larbour.
Adelaja said that all evidence showed in court proved that the accused was guilty of the offence.
The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Aug. 3, 2017 at about 9:15 a.m. at Ibara area of Abeokuta.
Eigbejiale said she stole all denomination of MTN cards worth N4.2 million property of Kings Court Ideal Anchor Limited, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.
The prosecutor explained that the convict was a sales representative with the organisation and was also in charge of selling MTN bulk cards.
He said that the convict could not provide the money for the sold cards, claiming that she was duped by a customer who came to buy cards from her.
The prosecutor told the court that that was the second time the convict stole the organisation’s money.
“The first time, she could not account for N3 million cards she sold and claimed that she was robbed by armed robbers,’’ he said.
Eigbejiale said that the offence contravened Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The convict, whose address was not known, had pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
