The Kwara State Government has revealed that the education revamping agenda tagged, ‘Every Child Counts’ has started yielding positive results in the education sector.
It noted that the policy is also evident in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Admissions Matriculation Examination (UTME) results with students from public schools amongst the highest scorers in the state.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, who disclosed this at Offa, Ijagbo and Omu-Aran during a routine inspection to some selected public schools in the areas, congratulated the students for this achievement.
The Commissioner noted that the huge investments and commitments to transforming the education sector by the present administration, is a strategic move for sustainable development and continued growth of the state.
While encouraging the schools to further improve in achieving success, the Commissioner met with the students who scored above 300 in the recently released UTME.
The students who received the commendation are Olanrewaju Samuel Semilore of Government Secondary School, Omu-Aran, scored 358; Abdulganiyu Abdulrahaman of Offa Grammar School, scored 337; Aleshiloye Khadija of Ansaruldeen College, Offa, scored 334 and Olajide Richard Olamide of Government Christian College, Omu-Aran scored 322 respectively.
Hajia Modibbo Kawu maintained that the present administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is determined to give the best to students to secure their future, disclosing that the state Government has given education a high priority with a view to achieving the strengthening of instructional delivery at all levels.
The Commissioner therefore charged the students that are writing the Senior School Certificate Examination in various schools visited to reciprocate the gesture by staying off any behaviour that may dent the image of the state and be a pride to their families and the state at large.
At St. Paul LGEA Primary School I and II, Omu-Aran, Hajia Modibbo Kawu addressed and received feedback from members of the Parents Teachers Association, holding their routine meeting at the time of the visit.
The Commissioner stated that the initiative of KwaraLEARN programme by the Kwara State Government was aimed at empowering the teachers with the right tools to improve learning outcomes, adding that it has significantly strengthened foundational literacy, numeracy and the standard of education in the state.
Other schools visited are: Anglican College, Offa, Oyun Baptist College, Ijagbo, Ansarul Islamic Secondary School, Omu-Aran, Aperan Comprehensive College, Omu-Aran where the Senior Secondary School Examination is ongoing.
The Commissioner also visited selected primary schools such as Anglican LGEA Primary School, Offa; Cyprian 1 Primary School, Offa; Nomadic Primary School, Gaa Aperan, Omu-Aran; St. Paul LGEA Primary School A & B, Omu-Aran, to assess the KwaraLearn programme delivery in the classrooms.
One of the parents in the Parents Teachers Association’s meeting at St. Paul LGEA Primary School, Omu-Aran, Mrs. Katola Florence, appreciated the Governor for appointing people with wealth of experiences into his Cabinet and lauded his achievements in the educational Sector.
