Date:

Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the umbrella sociocultural organisation of the people of Ilorin Emirate, has felicitated with the management and staff of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, the official radio station of the University of Ilorin, on its forthcoming 15th anniversary celebration.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Nurudeen Ibrahim, the Union’s National President, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, said that “UNILORIN 89.3 FM deserves to be celebrated in view of the numerous contributions and achievements recorded since its establishment”.

The statement recalled that “the station is not only the pioneer campus radio station in Kwara State but also the first that transmitted non-stop throughout the day”

The Union thanked the station for the services it has been rendering, which have been aiding and deepening community development as well as advancing peace and harmony.

Alhaji Abdulmalik specifically paid glowing tributes to the station for its consistent and profound exultations targeted at the students of the University and the youthful segment of the nation’s population, which, he said, have been impacting their attitudes positively .

He added that “the stimulating quality of the students of the institution and the enduring peace enjoyed by the University cannot be divorced from the quality programmes often paraded by the station”.

The Union similarly acknowledged the support the host community has often enjoyed from the station over the years, saying that the media outfit is one of the very few that always cover the Union’s programmes and activities with a view to promoting town and gown relationship.

Alhaji Abdulmalik commended the Head of the Station, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma) and his colleagues for working tirelessly towards sustaining its reputation as it also hailed the authorities of the University under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for establishing and supporting the station.

The Union wished the station and its staff members many more years of quality services to humanity.
