JAMB Audits UTME Results as Fresh Mop-Up Exam Announced

Date:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is conducting a final audit of results from the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), involving nearly 380,000 candidates.

The move comes ahead of the anticipated public release of the results, originally expected on Wednesday. JAMB officials, alongside representatives from civil society organisations, academic institutions, and independent observers, are part of the audit team overseeing the process.

A source on condition of anonymity, revealed that the results were not published on schedule due to the ongoing verification exercise.

JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, had earlier indicated that the results would be released on Wednesday, but findings by correspondents suggest the delay was caused by the additional scrutiny of data.

In a separate development, JAMB has announced plans for another round of mop-up examinations to accommodate the estimated 5.6% of candidates who missed the rescheduled UTME.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, said the special session would be inclusive of all affected candidates, regardless of the reason for their absence.

“This time, we are creating a new mop-up. Even those who missed the earlier exam due to absence will get another opportunity,” he said. “It’s not extraordinary. In any serious system, when students miss an exam, they’re allowed to make up—provided there’s no abuse.”

Oloyede emphasised the importance of the UTME as a placement tool rather than a measure of intelligence, and reiterated JAMB’s commitment to fairness and transparency.radio broadcast.
