More than 300 armed bandits attacked a police camp in Makuku Village, located in Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Thursday, making away with weapons and destroying property.
The incident, which occurred around 1:00 p.m., involved heavily armed assailants suspected to be cattle rustlers. According to reports, the attackers were moving with a large herd of stolen cattle believed to have been taken from Niger State and were headed toward Zamfara.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, confirming that the bandits overpowered the police officers stationed at the camp.
During the attack, eight AK-47 rifles belonging to the police were seized, and a Toyota Hilux patrol vehicle was set ablaze by the assailants.
A fierce gun battle reportedly broke out between the police and the attackers, but the officers were ultimately overwhelmed due to the large number of armed bandits.
Following the assault, troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with other security agencies, were deployed to the area to conduct search and rescue operations.
Security forces are currently tracking the escape routes of the attackers in an effort to recover the stolen weapons and cattle, and to apprehend the perpetrators.
There has been no official statement yet from the Kebbi State Police Command regarding casualties or arrests linked to the incident.
The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in northwestern Nigeria, where armed groups frequently carry out raids, particularly in remote communities.
