Kwara Eyes Agriculture for Economic Growth

Date:

The Kwara State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, has emphasized agriculture as a cornerstone of the state’s economic potential, citing its natural advantages and strategic location.

Speaking during a technical session and town hall meeting held under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) initiative in partnership with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Dr. Abolore described agriculture as the most viable sector beyond the civil service.

“Kwara is richly endowed for agriculture,” he said. “Our arable land, favorable climate, and strategic location between northern and southern Nigeria position us competitively for agricultural enterprise.”

Dr. Abolore praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritizing agricultural development through consistent investment in rural infrastructure, timely distribution of farm inputs, and empowerment programmes for local farmers.

“We have a governor who not only supports agriculture but ensures that indigenous farmers are equipped to succeed,” he said. “This commitment has contributed to Kwara’s growing role in national food production and agribusiness.”

The Commissioner noted that reforms introduced through SABER are expected to further enhance the ease of doing business, particularly in agriculture, by removing regulatory hurdles and attracting new investments.

He urged the public to actively engage with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to stay informed and access available opportunities. “We want residents to take ownership of these programmes. Visit the Ministry, ask questions, and register for initiatives that can support your growth in the sector.”

Dr. Abolore reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting innovation, improving input distribution, and expanding investment across the agricultural value chain to drive food security and economic growth in the state.
