Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Senate President, David Mark, has sounded the alarm over what he described as potential plans by the current administration to use the courts as a tool to derail the momentum of the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mark raised this concern during a meeting with the party’s National Legal Support Group, led by Barr. Abdullahi Abdurrahman, in Abuja on Thursday.
According to Mark, the ruling government may attempt to weaponize the judiciary to halt the growing popularity of the ADC, which is currently seen as a rallying platform for a new political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.
“ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” Mark warned.
Earlier, Barr. Abdurrahman revealed that over 310 lawyers from across Nigeria had voluntarily signed on to defend the ADC in any legal battles that may arise as the party positions itself for the next presidential election.
He stated that the legal task force has state-by-state representation, including the Federal Capital Territory, and is fully mobilized to handle pre-emptive legal attacks and ongoing litigation.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman stated confidently.
He further praised Senator David Mark for lending his political weight and credibility to the ADC’s rebirth, describing him as “a national statesman with unmatched political discipline.”
The Legal Support Group urged the ADC leadership to provide regular updates on all legal issues and to remain vigilant as the party’s popularity continues to grow.
In his response, Oyewole reassured the team that all documents and protocols around the newly formed opposition coalition under the ADC umbrella were in order.
“There is no cause for alarm. Every legal requirement was properly followed in the coalition process,” Oyewole confirmed.
However, David Mark remained firm in his concern, noting that the ADC’s rising grassroots popularity could make it a target for politically motivated court cases.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain alert and rally around a truly national and credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are not just forming a party; we are building a movement of patriotic Nigerians tired of recycled failure,” Mark said.
As 2027 draws closer, observers say the ADC, under Mark’s leadership, is emerging as a formidable political force, now backed by legal and structural support across the country.
