The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as false a viral report claiming the cancellation of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The council made this clarification in a statement issued on Sunday by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina.
WAEC described the circulating press release as “spurious,” stating that it did not originate from the council. The fake statement, which surfaced on July 19, alleged that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with WAEC, had scrapped the entire exam due to widespread malpractice and digital leaks.
Adesina emphasized that the examination was neither cancelled nor compromised. She reassured candidates and the public that the marking process had just concluded and results would be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.
WAEC also reminded the public that all official updates are issued through its verified platforms and signed by its Public Affairs Department. It urged stakeholders to disregard any unofficial reports aimed at spreading panic or discrediting the council.
