The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, Amos Daniel, in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at a hotel in the Ayobo area of Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, July 18, 2025, triggered panic among hotel guests and staff after disturbing noises were heard from one of the rooms around 10 p.m.
According to eyewitnesses, Daniel checked into the hotel around 5 p.m. with two male companions. A female guest, later identified as Endurance from Akwa Ibom State, joined them shortly afterward. Hours later, hotel staff and other guests were alarmed by strange sounds coming from the room.
One lodger, identified as Adio, recounted hearing the noise. “Someone knocked, but no one answered. A spare key was used to open the door. That’s when we saw the woman lying in a pool of blood,” he said.
Hotel staff quickly launched a search for the suspects. While two of the men managed to flee, Daniel was caught within the hotel premises while attempting to escape. He was reportedly subdued by guests and staff before being handed over to the police.
A hotel employee said the suspect had tried to bolt through the gate. “Some angry guests beat him before police arrived,” the worker added.
Witnesses claim Daniel confessed during the scuffle that he and his accomplices lured the victim for ritual purposes.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the report, stating that the hotel manager informed the Ayobo Police Station on Friday.
“At about 8 p.m., while refueling the generator, the manager heard strange noises and discovered the lifeless body of a woman with multiple stab wounds,” Hundeyin said.
Police recovered a dagger suspected to have been used in the attack, which reportedly fell from Daniel during his arrest. Additional items recovered from the suspect include a UTC axe, cutlass, machete, multiple jack knives, a pair of scissors, a laptop, local sponge, and military-style jungle boots.
The victim’s body has been deposited at Yaba General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
