Kidnappers Strike Again in Ondo, Target Farmers

Date:

The Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, has confirmed the abduction of seven farmers in Itaogbolu, a community in Akure North Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, when the victims were reportedly attacked by armed men while harvesting palm fruits on a farm. The kidnappers have since contacted the families of the abducted farmers, demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release.

In a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Adeleye stated that a combined security team had launched a search-and-rescue mission in the surrounding forest.

“Our men have been in the forest since Saturday, and I personally joined the operation on Sunday. We are hopeful the victims will be rescued soon,” he said.

The Ondo State Police Command also confirmed the abduction. Police spokesperson DSP Olushola Ayanlade said officers are working alongside other security outfits to locate and rescue the victims.

“There was a reported case of kidnapping in Itaogbolu over the weekend. While we can’t confirm the exact number of abductees yet, efforts are in full gear to secure their release,” Ayanlade stated.

Community sources say negotiations are ongoing after the kidnappers made contact on Sunday evening, raising concern among residents.
