Adam Gbechi, a resident of Lata-Nna community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been released unharmed less than 24 hours after being abducted by armed bandits.
According to local sources, Gbechi was kidnapped on Sunday night during a brazen attack on the community. His captors allegedly demanded a ransom of N150 million. However, the family confirmed that no money was paid for his release. A relative told Nupeko TV, Lafiagi, “No ransom was handed over,” highlighting the unusual nature of his release.
Gbechi was abducted alongside his brother, Aji Hajaworo, and a married woman. While Hajaworo and the woman managed to escape shortly after the incident, Gbechi remained in the hands of his captors overnight. He returned home safely on Monday morning, bringing relief to his family and the wider community.
The circumstances that led to Gbechi’s release remain unclear. Residents have expressed surprise and curiosity about the bandits’ decision, noting that it is uncommon for kidnappers in the area to release victims without payment. Community leaders and locals are calling for heightened vigilance and increased security measures to prevent future incidents.
