Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s historic victory in the Chikun Federal Constituency by-election to his administration’s inclusive and merit-based approach to governance.
Speaking in an interview with TVC, the governor said the constituency, regarded as a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had never voted for the APC since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
“Let me draw attention to the fact that in the history of APC, we’ve never won election in Chikun Federal Constituency. It was always PDP that won since 1999. Only two years ago, Labour Party won the constituency, but after the member died, a bye-election was held, and this time around APC won 70% of the total votes,” he explained.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC candidate winner with 34,580 votes, while the PDP candidate secured 11,491.
Governor Sani said the result was proof of growing confidence in his government’s policies.
“And I can tell you the reason why you are seeing these changes in Kaduna is simply because of our approach to governance,” he noted.
The governor also expressed concern about political debates framed around religion and ethnicity, describing them as distractions from quality leadership.
“As a leader, we don’t run our state based on religion, party affiliation, or ethnicity. Our focus is fairness, justice, and equity,” he said.
