The Police Service Commission (PSC) has renamed its Chairman’s Conference Hall in Abuja after the late former Chairman and Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday. The hall, located on the sixth floor of the Commission’s headquarters, will now be known as Solomon Arase Hall.
Arase, who was appointed the 18th Inspector General of Police in April 2015 and retired in June 2016, later served as Chairman of the Commission until his death on August 31, 2025, at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja. He was 69.
Speaking at a night of tribute held on Wednesday, the current PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), described his predecessor as a distinguished police officer, scholar, and reformer. Represented by the Director of Human Resource Management, Aminu Malumfashi, Argungu praised Arase as “a gentleman of rare courage and intellect.”
Funeral activities for the late Chairman will continue on Friday with a requiem mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, followed by a lying-in-state at his Abuja residence on Saturday.
According to the PSC statement, Arase’s remains will then be flown to Benin City, Edo State, for the continuation of burial rites.
A delegation from the Commission will attend the final ceremonies in Benin, where his interment is scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at his residence.
