The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed it carried out an air strike on enemy positions on Monday, September 29, between Kogi and Kwara states. The statement, issued at 1:54 p.m. on the NAF’s official WhatsApp platform, has sparked debates online, though there has been no dispute from the Air Force regarding its authenticity.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, stressing that the security sources, including the Department of State Services (DSS), confirmed the operation, which resulted in the elimination of several criminals in the area. Attached images from the DSS verify the action, alongside a screenshot of the NAF statement for reference.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF spokesman, personally confirmed the statement to news reporters on September 30, reinforcing the occurrence of the strike. Questions over the accompanying photo, which was not shared directly by the NAF, were addressed, noting that illustrative images are often used in media coverage without affecting the validity of the events reported.
In addition, claims that DSS withdrew weapons from forest guards have been refuted by both the DSS and forest guard leadership. Officials emphasized that while the video circulating online has caused concern, it is false, and does not diminish the genuine grief of affected families.
