BREAKING… Senate confirms new Minister for Tinubu

Date:

Senate on Thursday confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Dr. Bernard Doro as a minister after he appeared for screening at the Committee of the Whole.

During the brief screening session, Doro, who hails from Plateau State, told Senators that he would bring his enormous experience and certification across the facets of Pharmacy, Medicine, Law and Insurance to bear on impactful policy crafting and implementation.

He specifically stated that if assigned the humanitarian affairs portfolio as a minister that ecosystem shall be used to solve humanitarian crisis.

He said: “I intend to contribute my quota to the Renewed Hope Agenda by transferring the different experiences to help in policy crafting and implementation. I should be a voice that’ll impact the country positively.

“Should I be assigned the humanitarian ministry? What I will be looking to do in order to bring some innovation into the ministry will be to create a humanitarian ecosystem that is efficient, that is transparent, and that is centered on the person that is being cared for.

“And this is with a view to bringing dignity to the individual, to ensure that the needs of this individual is met. And this will be done based on principles that are well established in providing humanitarian action.

“Things around impartiality, things around independence, things about just being human in our care for people.”

Apparently impressed by the knowledge and competencies displayed by the nominee, the Senate on the strength of motion moved by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (APC Ondo South) which was seconded by Senator Diket Plang (PDP Plateau Central), told him to take a bow and leave.

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session, put the nomination to a voice vote, and it was unanimously approved by the lawmakers.

Akpabio thereafter congratulated Doro for his performance before the Senate.

He said: “I congratulate the nominee who has put forth such very excellent qualifications for his confirmation today by the Nigerian senate as the minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.

“I wish you well, and I congratulate Mr President for searching for our sons and finding them wherever they are to bring them into the service of the nation.”
