The Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has charged newly sworn-in members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to be patriotic, humble, and responsible citizens, in line with the values and motto of the NYSC.
He made this charge during the swearing-in ceremony for the Batch “C” corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, located at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu, welcomed the corps members to the State of Harmony and encouraged them to participate fully in all camp activities, including physical training, paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, among others.
He also advised them to remain humble, show good character, and be worthy ambassadors of their families.He further urged them to develop good leadership qualities and make honesty and hard work their guiding principles.
He advised the corps members not to be distracted by frivolities, urging them to ensure that the leadership qualities that the NYSC seeks to instill in them are achieved.
The Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Adebara, administered the NYSC Oath of Allegiance to the corps members.
The Chairman of the Kwara State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth Development, represented by the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Mrs. Okanla Kuburat Atinuke, appreciated the Governor for his continuous and timely support to the NYSC scheme in the State.
She encouraged the corps members to serve selflessly throughout the year and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.
She also commended the camp officials for their dedication and sacrifices in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the corps members, while advising the corps members to remain diligent and selfless.
Earlier in his address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, thanked Governor AbdulRazaq for providing the temporary orientation camp while development continues at the permanent site in Yikpata.
He praised the corps members for their enthusiasm to begin the mandatory service year and stated that various educational and entertaining activities had been arranged for them. He also reminded them to strictly obey all camp rules.
Mr Onifade announced that a total of 3,313 corps members were sworn in at the temporary camp at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
Present at the event were the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Engagement for Kwara Central, Hon. Adebayo Muhammed Kamaldeen; representative of the Brigade Commander, 22 Armoured Brigade, Major Abdullahi; representative of the State Commander of Man ‘O’ War, AMC Abdullahi; the representative of the Controller of Correctional Service, CSC Abubakar Yunusa; representative of the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, ACP Mukaila; representative of the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Okedare Abraham; Camp Director for the 2025 Batch C Orientation Course, Mr. Okocha Okpara; Directors from the Ministry of Youth Development; and several other invited guests.
