The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has directed airlines to review their schedules ahead of the Christmas travel rush to reduce recurring flight delays and cancellations.
FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, announced the measures on Wednesday in Abuja during a retreat themed “Future-proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernisation and Strategic Renewal.”
She said the agency has begun weekly stakeholder meetings—up from quarterly sessions—to ensure smoother operations throughout December and January.
Kuku outlined ongoing efforts to improve passenger experience, including repairs to faulty cooling systems, enhanced power supply—particularly in Lagos—and stricter oversight of facility managers to maintain cleaner airport environments.
She urged airlines, in collaboration with the NCAA, to provide timely information on delays and adjust schedules to minimise disruptions. “We know delays peak during this season. We are working closely with airlines to ensure smooth operations,” she said.
On financial performance, Kuku reported significant revenue growth since December 2023, including a more than 50% rise in non-aeronautical revenue and increased earnings from landing, parking, and passenger service charges.
She reaffirmed FAAN’s commitment to becoming a fully self-sustaining agency.
