
Ahead of the 2026 national budget presentation to the National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, sought the approval of the Senate for the 2026-2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF and Fiscal Strategy Paper, FSP.
Tinubu, in a letter attached to the documents and read by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary, stated that the Federal Executive Council, FEC has approved the 2026-2028 MTEF and FSP.
The President added that the 2026 budget would be prepared based on the fiscal assumptions and parameters contained in the approved documents.
“It is with pleasure that I forward the 2026-2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for the kind consideration and approval of the Distinguished Senate.
“The 2026-2028 MTF and FSP was approved during the Federal Executive Council meeting of December 3, 2025,” Tinubu stated.
He asked lawmakers for “expeditious legislative action” on the submission.
The Deputy Senate President referred the documents to the Committee on Finance and to report back on December 17.
