Screening of intending pilgrims for this year’s pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan has begun in Kwara State, with participants urged to represent the state and Nigeria responsibly.
The State Commissioner for Communications, Mrs Bolanle Olukoju, praised the smooth conduct of the screening and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
Head of Special Duty at the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr Adetunji Adetoye Oluwafemi, explained that the exercise is designed to assess the readiness of pilgrims and provide essential information to ensure a seamless pilgrimage.
Mr Oluwafemi warned against abscondment in the holy land, noting the serious consequences of such actions. He commended the Kwara pilgrims for their patience and discipline during the screening process.
He also reminded participants of the spiritual purpose of the pilgrimage, urging them to remember their country in prayers while in Israel and Jordan.
Chairman of the Kwara State Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board, Professor Timothy Oloyede Opoola, described the screening as crucial for a smooth pilgrimage experience.
Professor Opoola noted that the exercise involves several agencies, including the Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Department of State Services, Ministry of Health, and the Christian Association of Nigeria, coordinated by the NCPC, Abuja.
He said a total of 71 intending pilgrims are participating in this year’s exercise.
The chairman commended Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq for his support and urged the pilgrims to adhere to all instructions and avoid abscondment while in the holy land.
The screening marks the start of preparatory activities to ensure a safe, organized, and spiritually enriching pilgrimage for all participants.
