Sanwo-Olu Approves ₦4.4 Trillion Lagos State Budget for 2026

Date:

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, formalising the state’s spending plan for the fiscal year. The signing ceremony took place at the State House in Alausa, Ikeja, with the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, members of the State Executive Council and the Lagos State House of Assembly in attendance.

The budget, tagged the Budget of Shared Prosperity, was initially presented to the House of Assembly in December at ₦4.2 trillion. Lawmakers, however, approved an increased total of ₦4.4 trillion on January 8, adding ₦200 billion to the proposal.

Speaking after assenting to the bill, Sanwo-Olu said the budget would be implemented in the best interest of Lagos residents. He welcomed the upward review, describing it as a sign that lawmakers shared the belief that Lagosians deserved improved governance and development outcomes.

Representing Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, Majority Leader Hon. Adams Nojeem said the Assembly thoroughly scrutinised the budget to ensure it reflected the realities and priorities of Lagos State, in line with constitutional provisions.
