The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Malaysia.
The announcement was confirmed on Monday in a post shared on X by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
According to PTDF, the scholarship is open to qualified MSc and PhD candidates in disciplines relevant to the oil and gas sector. The award covers tuition fees, return air tickets, accommodation, living allowances, health insurance and bench fees, where applicable.
In a statement published on its website, the agency said the scheme is designed to provide access to world-class education and research facilities while building indigenous capacity in Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
For PhD candidates studying in the United Kingdom, the programme will adopt a split-site model, with research conducted at the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, and partner universities such as Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde and the University of Portsmouth.
PTDF noted that the scholarship is highly competitive and that selection will be based on academic excellence, research proposals, professional affiliations and the relevance of the proposed study to the oil and gas sector.
Eligibility requirements for MSc applicants include a minimum of a Second Class Lower degree, completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme, computer literacy and five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants are also required to submit a research proposal of no more than five pages.
The agency warned that all applicants must have a verified National Identity Number, adding that multiple applications or submission of false documents would lead to disqualification.
Applications are to be submitted online via the PTDF scholarship portal, with the deadline set for February 27.
