The Sagamu Magistrate Court has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the road accident linked to heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua, to February 25, 2026. The accident reportedly claimed the lives of two persons.
Kayode, 46, was arraigned on January 2 before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun on a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention resulting in bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence, contrary to provisions of the Federal Highway Act.
The case was adjourned after the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, told the court that while four witnesses were listed, only three were present. He requested an adjournment to enable the prosecution transmit the case file to the Ogun State Attorney-General through the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, citing the interest of justice.
Although defence counsel, Abiodun Olalekan, opposed the request and indicated readiness to proceed, the court granted the prosecution’s application and fixed February 25 for further hearing.
