Oba, ODU President raises the alarm over strange disease in Oro-Ago community.

*No strange disease – Commissioner

The Oloro of Oro-Ago, Oba Tafa Dada; and  the President, Oro-Ago Development Union, Mr. Olaniyi Olushola;  have said that strange illness has hit some members of  the community, especially the Bororos. According to them scores  had died since the outbreak of the disease about July 23.

Olushola said  claimed that many people had died as a result strange illness within two weeks. He stated that it  had been reported to the state Ministry of Health in Ilorin, through Dr Lawal.

He decried that the Oro-Ago General Hospital had been abandoned and that the  community currently has no functional  health centre.

The ODU President called on the Kwara State Government and other relevant concerns to assist the community.

Oba Dada said it was true that there is the  outbreak of the strange disease in some parts of the community. He also sent the ODU President to alert the Ministry of Health in Ilorin about the development.

He said,  “People are vomiting and they will vomit blood and black substance. I was also told that many people have died, that was why I sent my ODU President to go the Ministry of Health to report to them.”

The State Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Atolagbe Aloge said the claim of outbreak of strange illness was untrue.

He stated that because there was currently no functional health centre at Oro-Ago, people raised the alarm to attract sympathy and help.

He said people were raising the alarm because of their concern for the area to have a functional health centre.

He,  said,  There is not outbreak of strange illness in Oro-Ago. Basically the issue why some people are raising alarm is that a staff at the health centre at Oro-Ago has been moved out of the place and needs to be replaced. I have directed relevant units to replace the nurse to handle the health centre.

“Basically that is what happened there. Their major concern is that they need the health centre to function. That is why  some people are raising the alarm.  I believe that by tomorrow, the needful will be done and things will return back to normal.

“I was informed that only one woman died on Tuesday. She died of a confirmed case of cancer. There is nothing like outbreak of illness in that community.”
