The Federal Government has congratulated Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele for the record-breaking box office success of her latest film, Behind the Scenes. The National Orientation Agency (NOA) hailed the achievement on its X handle Monday, describing it as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and a testament to the growing global acceptance of Nigerian stories.
Behind the Scenes has grossed over ₦2.1 billion in Nigeria, making it the first Nollywood film to surpass the ₦2 billion mark. The movie has also made an international impact, earning $111,256 in Canada and $190,249 across North America, reflecting Nollywood’s expanding global reach.
The NOA highlighted that Akindele has now topped the African box office for three consecutive years, underscoring her consistent influence in the industry. The agency said the success of the film demonstrates the increasing international appeal of Nigerian cinema and marks a proud moment for the country’s cultural and creative sectors.
