The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finalized the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, reaffirming its readiness to conduct the polls despite delays surrounding the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly. INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), noting that some activities in the timetable may need adjustments depending on when the National Assembly passes the proposed amendments.
He emphasized that, until the amended law is enacted, the Commission will continue to operate under the existing legal framework while remaining committed to delivering a credible election. INEC has submitted its recommendations to lawmakers, but the timing of the Electoral Act’s amendment could still affect certain aspects of the election schedule. The Commission will monitor legislative developments and make adjustments where necessary.
