Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that the political crisis in Rivers State will soon be resolved following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention. Wike made the remarks in Abuja after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the territory, noting that a fresh truce between him and Governor Siminalayi Fubara, brokered by the President, has paved the way for lasting peace. He expressed optimism that this would be the final time the President needs to intervene in the state’s political disagreements.
As part of efforts to sustain peace, Wike said members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been advised to comply with the President’s directives, and he expects the state executive to fulfil its obligations under the agreement. He praised Tinubu’s role, calling him “the father of the nation” and emphasizing that all parties must listen to his guidance to ensure progress and stability in Rivers State.
During the FCT project inspection, Wike highlighted the near completion of the Arterial Road N5 extension from Life Camp Junction to Kafe District, with final works on walkways and streetlights expected within three weeks. He also commended progress on the 10-kilometer Renewed Hope City Access Road in Karsana, assuring that funding and quality standards would be maintained to meet the stipulated timelines and reinforce the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Governor Fubara pledged to honour Wike’s vision by completing the Port Harcourt Ring Road project, a key infrastructure initiative designed to reduce traffic congestion and support long-term urban development. The governor emphasized the project’s strategic importance to the state and committed to providing uninterrupted funding to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, the construction firm handling the project.
Fubara assured that the Port Harcourt Ring Road, spanning five local government areas, would be completed by October 2026, aligning with the original project timeline of 36 months. He highlighted that fulfilling this project would satisfy both the public and the vision set by Wike, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to completing strategic development initiatives in Rivers State.
