The Lagos State Police Command has responded to allegations of assault raised by popular content creator and influencer Papaya Ex.
According to reports, Papaya Ex claimed the incident occurred on Friday night while she was returning from a shoot. During a TikTok live session, she appeared with visible injuries and alleged that police officers hit her face with a gun, assaulted her breast, and beat her driver.
Although the alleged assault was not captured on video, she was seen bleeding from a wound on her face, sparking widespread reactions online.
Reacting to the allegations, the spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided the police version of events on social media.
He said officers on night patrol stopped a vehicle carrying three men and two women for a routine check shortly before 2:00 a.m. According to him, the occupant identified as Papaya Ex reportedly refused the search, insisting officers could not inspect her vehicle.
Hundeyin stated that she opted to drive to the station while the patrol vehicle followed. He alleged that the driver later sped off, prompting officers to radio a patrol team ahead to intercept the vehicle. He added that the situation unfolded during the live session.
The police spokesperson concluded by saying the command would handle the matter further. Investigations into the allegations are expected to continue.
