A Kano woman, Hafsatu Yusuf, who recently delivered quintuplets at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, has died, the Kano State Ministry of Health has confirmed.

The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, told newsmen on Thursday that Yusuf passed away around 2 a.m. at the hospital.

K/Na’isa said the woman experienced persistent bleeding after giving birth to five babies—three boys and two girls—and medical efforts to stabilize her were unsuccessful. “She had been bleeding since after delivery, and all efforts by doctors to control the situation were unsuccessful,” he said.

The deceased has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro, Kano. Authorities are appealing to the public to support the quintuplets with milk and other essential items.

The newborns are reportedly in stable condition and are receiving medical attention at the hospital.

The incident comes a day after the Kano State Government announced that it would take responsibility for the medical care of both the mother and her babies.

Earlier statements from the ministry noted that the quintuplets were delivered successfully and that both mother and children had been placed under special care.

The husband of the deceased, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, expressed gratitude to the state government, describing its intervention as timely support for the family.

The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare and reducing mortality rates across the state.
