The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has suspended a party chieftain, Fubara Dagogo, over alleged anti-party activities linked to a lawsuit he filed against the party ahead of its planned national convention.
Dagogo, a member of Ward 4 in Bonny Local Government Area, was suspended by the ward’s Executive Committee after it accused him of gross misconduct and violating party discipline.
The dispute followed his decision to approach the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order to halt the APC’s planned convention. In the suit, he alleged that he was unjustly prevented from contesting for the position of National Vice-Chairman (South-South).
Dagogo claimed that although he paid N5.1 million for the nomination form, the party failed to provide the necessary documents required to formalize his candidacy. He asked the court to suspend the South-South zonal congress and recognize his eligibility for the position.
He also sought the nullification of any election conducted without his participation and demanded N100 million in damages, alleging marginalization by the party.
However, the Ward 4 leadership in Bonny described the legal action as a violation of the party’s constitution and internal disciplinary procedures.
Ward Chairman, Richard Ibani, said the suspension followed a resolution reached during a committee meeting held on March 16. The suspension notice was signed by Ward Secretary, Donald Jumbo, and 21 other executive members.
The ward executives cited provisions of Article 21.2 (I), (II) and (VII) of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended), stating that Dagogo’s actions embarrassed the party and breached established rules guiding members’ conduct.
They added that the suspension takes immediate effect and called on the state secretariat to uphold the decision and take further necessary action.
