Oyo Police Detain Officers Over Man’s Death

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the death of a man following an encounter with officers along the Iseyin/Oyo Road in Oyo State.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the incident involved officers of the Border Patrol Unit and a Fulani man who was riding a motorcycle.

According to the police account, the man reportedly became “restive and violent,” leading to a confrontation with the officers during which he fell from his motorcycle.

He was subsequently rushed to a medical facility where he was confirmed dead.

The statement said: “He was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where he was confirmed dead.”

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered the detention of all officers involved, pending the outcome of a full investigation. An autopsy has also been directed to determine the exact cause of death.

The police added that a brief protest broke out in Iseyin after the incident but was quickly brought under control following assurances that justice would be served.

The Command said a comprehensive report on the incident will be released after investigations are concluded.
