Ekiti Police Dismiss Sergeant Over Alleged Drug Use

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti State has dismissed a police sergeant, Osayingbemi Temitope, over alleged involvement in illicit drug use.

The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Ado-Ekiti.

According to Abutu, the officer was seen in a viral video “behaving erratically” in Ikole-Ekiti on May 9 after allegedly consuming illicit substances.

He said the officer was immediately subjected to medical and psychological examinations alongside internal disciplinary procedures.

The police spokesperson explained that the psychological evaluation confirmed the officer was emotionally stable, while medical tests reportedly detected traces of tobacco and amphetamine in his system.

“During further enquiries, the officer confessed to having taken some illicit drugs,” Abutu stated.

He added that after the disciplinary process was completed, the officer was found guilty of misconduct and recommended for dismissal.

“He was recommended for dismissal, and the recommendation was upheld. The Command hereby confirms his dismissal with immediate effect,” he said.

Abutu stressed that the police force remains committed to discipline and professionalism, adding that acts capable of damaging the image of the force would not be tolerated.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Falade Michael, also urged officers and personnel of the command to uphold integrity, accountability, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
