Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Timi Frank, has cautioned Nigerian and African leaders against entering into what he described as “devilish” and “anti-people” agreements with France.
In a statement issued on Friday, Frank urged African youths to resist what he called renewed French influence across the continent.
His comments followed recent diplomatic engagements at the Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth Summit in Nairobi, attended by French President Emmanuel Macron and several African leaders, including Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
Frank alleged that France was attempting to rebuild its influence in Africa after facing resistance and declining acceptance in some Francophone African countries.
He described the agreements reportedly signed during the summit as a “Greek gift,” arguing that such partnerships would not promote genuine development or improve the welfare of ordinary Africans.
According to him, African leaders must prioritise the interests of their citizens above personal ambition and corruption-driven alliances.
“Any agreement signed with France will only benefit the leaders themselves and not the people. Africans must reject such deals because they are like death warrants for the continent,” Frank said.
He further urged Africans to reject leaders who, according to him, “mortgage the future of their countries for selfish gains,” insisting that the continent needs partnerships capable of promoting development, security, and prosperity for its people.
