Wike Speaks on Alleged Agreement Breach by Governor Fubara

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara breached an agreement reached to resolve the prolonged political crisis in the state by initially pursuing a second term in office.

Wike made the claim on Monday while speaking to journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja. According to him, part of the understanding reached among political stakeholders to stop impeachment moves against Fubara was that the governor would not seek re-election.

The former Rivers governor said Fubara’s decision to obtain nomination forms for another term complicated efforts aimed at restoring political peace and stability after months of political tension between both camps.

Wike, however, noted that Fubara had since withdrawn from the Rivers State governorship primary, adding that another candidate had already emerged. He suggested that some of the governor’s actions during the crisis did not align with the spirit of the reconciliation agreement.

Fubara had earlier announced his withdrawal from the governorship race, saying the decision was made after consultations with family members, political associates, and supporters in the interest of peace, unity, and stability in Rivers State. The political rift between Wike and Fubara has continued to divide the state’s political structure for several months.
