The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed as false a social media report alleging that passengers travelling in a bus from Ado-Ekiti to Ibadan were kidnapped at Aramoko-Ekiti on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the command immediately deployed intelligence and tactical teams to the area upon receiving the report.
Abutu stated that investigations confirmed the report was entirely fabricated and intended to create panic among residents while undermining the efforts of security agencies and the state government.
He noted that the command had observed a growing trend of fake news and false security alerts in the state, warning that such actions were capable of causing unnecessary fear and disrupting public peace.
The police urged residents to disregard the report, verify information before sharing, and continue their lawful activities, while also advising the public to report individuals involved in spreading fake security information to security agencies through official channels.
