The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, attached to the Mining Marshals Unit over the alleged killing of their senior colleague, Agada Levi Agada, during an operation in Nasarawa State.
In a statement on Sunday, the Force Intelligence Department, FID, said it launched an investigation into Agada’s death following a petition filed by the deceased’s family lawyer.
The arrested officers were identified as Simeon Yakubu Anyebe, Ibrahim Ayefu, and Iwodi Obochi.
According to police, Agada was reportedly shot while on duty during an operation at Rafin Gabas in the Agwada area of Nasarawa State.
The FID further disclosed that investigators traced over N2 billion to a Zenith Bank account belonging to a Mining Marshal identified as Sergeant Labaran. The account number is 1008392780.
“We have been able to trace the transfer and receipt of such clandestine monies from his account to and from the accounts of some of the other suspects,” the statement read.
Police added that several other Mining Marshal personnel were invited for questioning but failed to honour the invitations. Investigations are ongoing to determine the nature of the transactions and links to other suspects.
