The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has felicitated with the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on his 83rd birthday.
The VC confirmed that the prominent royal father deserves to be celebrated for remaining an icon and role-model even among statesmen of his class.
Prof. Egbewole, in a statement signed by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, said that the Emir, who has left no one in doubt that he is a leader of all and of all times, is a detribalised and remarkable jurist who made his domain very attractive to all without any form of discrimination.
Pointing out that the contributions of the elder statesman to national development through many spheres cannot be glossed over, the Vice Chancellor commended Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, who is also the Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for vigorously exerting positive influences on the people before and since he ascended the throne of his illustrious forebears about three decades ago.
Prof. Egbewole added that the good leadership of the Emir has seen Ilorin Emirate evolving positively on all fronts, saying that his reign would continue to be remembered for all the good things recorded by the people and residents of Ilorin Emirate as well as by institutions hosted by it.
The Vice Chancellor said that the egalitarian dispositions of the Emir is as commendable as his peaceful approach to issues, saying that the prevailing peace and harmony of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State cannot be divorced from the fascinating personality of the first class monarch.
Prof. Egbewole specifically thanked the Emir for his good leadership qualities, consistent fatherly counsel and prayers that are impacting on the University and its constituents, saying that the University has benefited immensely from the wisdom and advice of the monarch.
The Vice Chancellor, while wishing the Emir many more years of peaceful and prosperous reign, assured Alhaji Sulu-Gambari of the cooperation and loyalty of the staff and students of the University.
