Abba Yusuf Opens Up on His APC Defection in Kano

Date:

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf says his decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by a strategic aim to link Kano more closely with the centre of national governance to accelerate development for the state. He made the comments while addressing a large crowd at the 2026 Grand Rally held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Monday.

Yusuf stressed that Kano’s size and strategic importance make it untenable for the state to remain politically disconnected from the federal government, arguing that alignment with the ruling party will help Kano fully participate in national development.

According to a statement by his spokesperson Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor emphasised that his decision was not motivated by personal ambition but by responsibility to the people of Kano and delivering tangible results through cooperation with the federal government.

He also highlighted the importance of engaging actively with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said requires serious governance and diligent implementation to benefit the nation and state. Yusuf noted that support from his party and the federal government places Kano in a better position to move forward with confidence and stability.

The rally drew thousands of supporters as Yusuf formalised his entry into the APC, with the governor expressing optimism that the political realignment will bring development opportunities and enhance cooperation between Kano and the federal authorities.
