Actress Lilian Afegbai Reacts to AMVCA Exclusion give headlines

Date:

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has criticized the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) after being snubbed in the 2026 nominations. The 12th edition of the awards recently announced its nominees, and Afegbai’s co-star in To Kill A Monkey, Bimbo Akintola, received a nod for Best Lead Actress.

Afegbai expressed her disappointment over the omission, emphasizing that her character, Idia, was the most trending role in the popular series. She argued that her performance had garnered significant attention and acclaim from fans.

Despite her frustration, the actress stated that she does not seek external validation for her work. She made it clear that the lack of a nomination would not diminish her achievements or the impact of her role in the series.

In a post on her X handle, Afegbai wrote, “AMVCA smh. I always choose to believe everything happens for a reason. I don’t need a nomination for validation. The truth is clear: Nobody trended like Idia from TKAM last year. Her acting was 100. You guys can eat your award.”

The actress’s comments have sparked conversations online, with fans supporting her stance and highlighting the popularity of her character. Her response underscores ongoing debates around recognition and fairness in Nollywood award selections.
