Adamawa Governor Enforces Curfew Amid Deadly Lamurde Attacks

Date:

Gov Fintiri

Fresh violence erupted in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State as armed militias reportedly went on a killing spree across multiple communities, leaving scores of residents feared dead. Local sources said attackers rampaged through villages, killing and hurriedly burying victims, spreading panic throughout the area.

The bloodshed is linked to ongoing ethnic tensions between Bachama and Tchobo-speaking communities, whose clashes have repeatedly destabilised the region in recent years. Previous confrontations drew national attention after Nigerian Army troops, deployed to restore peace, allegedly opened fire on unarmed women protesters.

In response to the renewed violence, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde with immediate effect. The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said the measure was necessary following the latest breach of peace and directed security agencies to enforce it strictly.

Governor Fintiri warned that anyone violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law. The curfew will remain in force until further notice, while security agencies have been ordered to maintain law and order in the affected communities.

Authorities urged residents to comply with the curfew and provide information to help restore calm. The government emphasised its commitment to protecting lives and property, stating that acts of violence will not be tolerated and all necessary measures will be taken to ensure safety in Lamurde.
