An Ilorin based Islamic, Sheikh Sulyman Umar Babatunde has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kwara to adopt consensus arrangement in picking is governorship candidate for the 2019 election.
Sheikh Babatunde made the appeal on Wednesday in Ilorin in a sermon delivered at the commissioning of the secretariat of Kwara Central Senatorial district of the APC.

According to the Cleric, the time is now to free the entire state from slavery and subjugation by an individual.

He said APC remained the only party that can rescue the state and its people from the shackle of oppression and bad governance of over 18 years.

To free the state, Sheikh Babatunde said all APC governorship aspirants must come together and select one of them to fly the flag of the party to victory.

“We should not make the same mistake we made in 2015 when myriad of aspirants marred the fortune of the then Peoples Democratic Party in the state,” the Cleric added.

The Sheikh declared that prosperity would not forgive the 12 aspirants in APC if they failed to produce a candidate that will deliver the state from the shackle of slavery and oppression.

“I call on all important and influential persons in the society and religious leaders to call all the 12 aspirants to a meeting to adopt a candidate to take us out of the wood,” the Cleric added.

Sheikh Babatunde however advised that in a situation that the aspirants were unable to reach consensus among themselves, they should all support whoever emerged at the primary.

“I will beg the 12 aspirants of the APC to solidly support whoever emerges at the primary so that the party can come out victorious at the election.

“You should not make the mistake you made in 2015 in PDP when, after the primaries, many of the aspirants worked against the candidate leading to the defeat of PDP,” the Sheikh added.

APC Kwara Central Senatorial chairman, Hon Gidado Alakawa, in his address appealed to all aspirants, many of who were from the senatorial district to accept the outcome of the primary on Saturday, Sept 29.

According to him, all the aspirants and the entire members of the party in Kwara should support the winner of Saturday’s governorship primaries.

“One of us is better than none of us, it is better for one of the aspirants to be the next governor of the state than to have another party in the Government House,” Alakawa said.

The Senatorial chairman said the commissioning of the secretariat would afford executives of the party in the district to coordinate the activities of the party centrally.

State Chairman of the party, Hon Bashir Bolarinwa commended the senatorial chairman and members of the executives for the commissioning of the secretariat.

The Chairman appealed to all the aspirants to play the game according to the rule and accept outcome of the primaries in good faith for APC to be victorious at the polls.
