AfCFTA will lift 30m Africans out of poverty by 2035

The national president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Ide Udeagbala, on Tuesday disclosed that the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is poised to lifting 30million Africans out of extreme poverty by 2035.

Udeagbala who spoke in Ilorin at the opening ceremony of at the 8th edition of Kwara Trade Fair further said: “AfCFTA is also expected to generate increased cross-border trade and investment volumes, technology transfers, and raise income levels.”
Represented by the second deputy president, Engr. Jani Ibrahim, the NACCIMA boss noted that, “Nigeria as the leading economy in Africa will naturally play a key role in trading under the AfCFTA.”
ROYAL NEWS reports that this year’s trade fair which is tilted: “Trade beyond borders”, according to him, best describes the need to take our business and services beyond the confines of our country and explore the world market.
He said: “Trading has gone beyond national borders as businesses now interact based on improved documentary compliance, border compliance and domestic logistics. AfCFTA agreement now in operation has many promising opportunities for people from all socio-economic strata to share in the anticipated economic growth in the world’s largest free-trade zone.
“It is an agreement that will involve 55 African countries, with a market size of about U.S. $3.5 trillion. I therefore charge all the exhibitors and participants at this fair to maximize this opportunity for networking, engage in business to business discussions and to expand frontiers of trade and business transactions with a keen eye on harnessing opportunities under the AfCFTA.
“NACCIMA will continually support and work with you and we request same from you. Let me also thank you for giving me an able colleague in the person of Engr. Jani Ibrahim. He is indeed a proud Ambassador of KWACCIMA.
I wish you all a trade fair filled with benefits for us all.”
He therefore commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State for his contributions to the operations of the private sector in the state.
“We particularly want to acknowledge your steadfastness in the ease of doing business in Kwara State. We are highly appreciative and we seek for further engagements to move the State forward”, he added.
