Afegbua Links ADC Crisis to Alleged Attack on Peter Obi

Date:

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Kassim Afegbua, has suggested that members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who were prevented from attending a recent party meeting may have been behind the alleged attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Afegbua made the claim on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television, while reacting to the incident involving Obi in Benin, Edo State.

Obi had reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Tuesday, a development that heightened political tension in the state.

According to Afegbua, a crisis within the African Democratic Congress began on Monday and escalated the following day. He said the internal disagreement created significant tension among party leaders.

“The ADC members who were prevented from attending the meeting may have orchestrated the attack,” Afegbua said.

He alleged that the Monday incident led to a blockade of the road to Government House, forcing motorists to take alternative routes. Afegbua said he was in Benin at the time and had seen video footage showing visible anger among party leaders.

The commissioner claimed that one of the party leaders reportedly locked his gate to stop others from attending the meeting, an action he believes may have triggered the subsequent unrest.

Neither Peter Obi nor the ADC has officially responded to the allegation as of the time of filing this report.
