African Stars Shine Across Europe’s Top Leagues

Date:

Manchester United forward Bryan Mbeumo continued his fine run of form at the weekend, scoring his fourth goal in as many games in a 2–2 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 26-year-old Cameroon international opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, heading home a cross from Amad Diallo past Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. Mbeumo’s goal was his sixth of the season, continuing his resurgence after a slow start following his summer move from Brentford.

Mbeumo will now turn his focus to international duty as Cameroon face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday in a 2026 FIFA World Cup African play-off in Rabat. A victory would see the Indomitable Lions advance to a final playoff against Gabon or Nigeria, with a place in next year’s intercontinental play-offs at stake.

Elsewhere in England, Idrissa Gueye scored for Everton in their 2–0 win over Fulham. The Senegalese midfielder netted in first-half stoppage time, capitalising on a rebound after Tim Iroegbunam’s effort hit the crossbar. The goal was Gueye’s second of the season — already half of his best-ever tally for the Toffees.

At the City Ground, Ibrahim Sangaré scored his first goal for Nottingham Forest, helping his side to a 3–1 victory over Leeds United. The Ivorian midfielder struck in the 15th minute before Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson added to the tally, securing Forest’s first league win since the opening day of the season.

In Germany, Yann Diomande extended his purple patch for RB Leipzig, scoring his third goal in as many Bundesliga games in a 3–1 defeat to Hoffenheim. The 18-year-old Ivorian also boasts three assists in his last three outings, underlining his growing influence.

In France, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his scoring run for Marseille, netting the final goal in a 3–0 win over Brest after connecting with a pinpoint cross from substitute Matt O’Riley. The victory briefly sent Marseille to the top of Ligue 1 before they ended the weekend second, two points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
