Again, Chief of Army Staff speaks on defeating banditry
Yahaya gave the assurance at a one-day seminar on “Intensifying the Spirit of the Warrior” organized by the Department of Transformation and Innovation at Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Policy and Plans Representative (Army), Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, COAS, said the complex and volatile security emergencies facing the nation have required the ongoing review of the national security architecture to contain threats.
He said that although the various acts of insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping and banditry and other terrorist organizations have continued to pose substantial threats to the nation.
Yahaya said the troops continued to respond assiduously to contain and decimate all adversaries in accordance with his inaugural message upon taking office, that all of Nigeria’s adversaries must be decisively defeated.
According to him, maintenance and insistence on a winning mentality must be instilled in all troops.
Yahaya said that the seminar was designed to consolidate the initial achievements of the first edition and provide an avenue for further participation and academic contribution to enhance the warrior spirit.
According to him, the essence is to continue looking for strategies to improve the spirit and zeal of one’s own troops for better efficiency and combat readiness.
He urged participants to make conscious efforts to get good ideas from the seminar, saying it would have a positive impact on driving troops to optimal performance.
“The successes recorded in the fight against terrorism and banditry, as well as the general conduct of its operations throughout the country, are proof of this. However, much is still required of us.
“Let me also take this opportunity to reiterate the unwavering commitment of the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for his invaluable support to the Nigerian military in ensuring the success of our various operations.
“We must, for our part, continue to justify these resources and the goodwill of all assigned tasks quickly and in the most efficient and professional manner as warriors,” he said.
Previously, the Chief of Transformations and Innovation (Army), Maj.-Gen. Charles Ofoche said that the seminar was based on the need to strengthen the fighting spirit of our personnel deployed in the Northeast and other operating theaters in Nigeria.
Ofoche said the seminar was also timely considering the changing tactics of adversaries who kidnap for ransom and attack the nation’s critical infrastructure, such as rail lines, power lines, communication networks, airports, among others.
He said that it had become convenient to review the current security architecture and restrategize to close the observed gaps, as well as build the right fighting will for the threats.
According to him, the purpose of this seminar, therefore, is to generate ideas and offer practical ways to imbue our troops with the warrior spirit that encompasses the will, zeal and spirit to fight to the end.
“Revitalizing the will to fight is essential to building a formidable 21st century military.
“This will not only further the achievement of the missions of the Nigerian Army, but will also effectively further the cardinal pillars of the Army Chief of Staff Command philosophy, which is based on professionalism, preparedness, stewardship and cooperation.
“Furthermore, it is hoped that it will inspire the Nigerian Army to strive for better results in terms of operational effectiveness,” he said.
