Agitations: Cleric tasks leaders on patriotism

Rt. Rev. Ogunmuyiwa with Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo

Dr Peter Ogunmuyiwa, the Coordinating Chaplain, National Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, has attributed most cases of agitation in Nigeria at present to lack of patriotism from leaders.

Ogunmuyiwa, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of his 50th birthday celebration at the National Ecumenical Centre on Wednesday, also identified poverty and uneven distribution of wealth as other factors contributing to agitation in the country.

The cleric, who is also the Bishop of Diocese of the North/Abuja of the African Church, expressed optimism that Nigeria would get back on the right track if leaders have a change of attitude.

“ I think that the reason for all these agitations is the leadership of the country.

“People in leadership positions are not patriotic enough; not many of us believe in the Project Nigeria.

“ The moment we see Nigeria as our own, we will understand the need for us to be committed to the development of Nigeria.

]“Poverty and uneven distribution of wealth are the causes of all the agitations we are seeing; the moment our government gets it right, all these issues would be taken care of,’’ he said.

The highlight of the event was the launch of a book entitled, `The Possibilities of the Impossible, ’ authored by the celebrator.

He said that the book was a reflection of his experience in life in which he tried to record what he had gone through in life so that youths could learn from it.

“It captures my experience in my ministry; in the secular world and in the ecumenical circle as a citizen of Nigeria.

“I try to reflect on all that God has for me to do and to look at areas of improvement in life,’’ he said.
