Super Eagles captain and newly appointed General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, Ahmed Musa, has denied viral social media claims that he distributed luxury SUVs to players and officials of the club.
In a statement released via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Musa described the reports as completely false and misleading. The rumours, which trended earlier in the day, alleged that the footballer gifted brand-new Toyota Land Cruisers to Kano Pillars staff as part of his return to the club in an executive capacity.
“It has come to my attention that false information is being circulated claiming that I distributed cars to players and officials following my appointment as general manager of Kano Pillars Football Club. This claim is entirely untrue,” Musa wrote.
He urged media outlets and the general public to verify claims before sharing them online, cautioning that misinformation could damage the integrity of the club and its leadership.
A fact-check conducted by The PUNCH traced the photos of the purported vehicle gifts to an unrelated event in March 2024, when Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris donated 24 SUVs to members of the state House of Assembly.
Despite the misleading reports, Musa appeared unbothered and joined Kano Pillars players in training on Tuesday, reaffirming his commitment to both administrative duties and active football responsibilities.
Musa was officially unveiled as General Manager of the NPFL club on Saturday, July 5, by the Kano State Government. At his first official board meeting on Monday, the 31-year-old emphasized his goal of restoring the club’s reputation and competitiveness in both domestic and continental football.
“Kano Pillars is one of Nigeria’s most decorated clubs, but in recent years, its standing has diminished. With the support of the board, staff, and fans, I am committed to reviving our glory days,” Musa said.
He also called for unity, dedication, and strategic planning from all stakeholders to ensure a successful tenure for the four-time Nigerian champions.
