The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has expressed shock over the demise of Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, the Executive Director, United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA).

Mrs Buhari, who sent a condolence message through her tweeter handle on Monday, said that the news of Osotimehin’s death came as a shock.

She, therefore, prayed almighty God to grant the family and UNFPA the fortitude to bear the loss.

“ The news of his death came as a rude shock and his passing away is a great loss to Us all.

“ Myself and the Future Assured team mourn his demise; he will indeed be greatly missed.

“I pray Almighty God to grant his family, the UNFPA the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, Osotimehin was born on Feb. 6, 1949 in Ogun State.

The late Prof. Osotimehin, graduated from University of Ibadan.

He was appointed as the Executive Director of UNFPA on Dec. 19, 2010 after serving as the Federal Minister of Health.

He was re-appointed in August 2014.

He had previously served as the Director-General, National Action Committee Against Aids (NACA) in Nigeria (NAN).
